An estimated 5–7% of Pakistan's population are thalassemia carriers. Most don't know. HOFCD's free thalassemia screening camps in Mailsi and Vehari provide blood tests to detect carriers and early-stage patients — enabling life-saving early intervention and preventing new thalassemia births through genetic counseling.
When two thalassemia minor carriers marry, each pregnancy has a 25% chance of producing a thalassemia major child. By identifying carriers before marriage and providing genetic counseling, HOFCD helps families make informed decisions and dramatically reduce new thalassemia births in the community.
Complete Blood Count (CBC) tests, hemoglobin electrophoresis for carrier detection, results interpretation by qualified doctors, and genetic counseling for detected carriers. All services are free. Results are explained in simple Urdu.
Any patient found to have thalassemia major at a screening camp is immediately connected to HOFCD's patient support program — ensuring they receive ongoing care without delay.
