HOFCD's flagship program: monthly free blood transfusion camps in Mailsi for thalassemia patients. For children with thalassemia major, blood transfusions every 2–4 weeks are not optional — they are life or death. HOFCD ensures no family in Mailsi or Vehari is denied this care due to financial constraints.
Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder in which the body cannot produce enough healthy hemoglobin. Children with thalassemia major must receive blood transfusions every 2–4 weeks for their entire lives. Without regular transfusions, they suffer from severe anemia, organ failure, and premature death.
In Mailsi and District Vehari, many thalassemia patient families are from low-income backgrounds — daily wage laborers, small farmers, or unemployed. A single blood transfusion with associated tests and medicines can cost PKR 5,000–15,000. For families who earn this in a month, the financial burden is impossible without support.
Every month, HOFCD organizes a free blood transfusion camp at a designated location in Mailsi. Qualified medical staff, safe blood sourced through HOFCD's registered donor network, and all necessary consumables are provided at zero cost to patients. The camps serve over 60 registered patients, the majority of whom are children under 15.
All patients are formally registered with HOFCD, receiving a patient card and treatment history record. Follow-up calls ensure no patient misses a scheduled transfusion. HOFCD also connects patients requiring specialist care to hospitals in Multan and Lahore.
